1. Would You Mind là gì?

Cấu trúc would you mind được sử dụng rất phổ biến trong tiếng Anh khi muốn hỏi hay đề nghị ai đó giúp đỡ một cách lịch sự và trang trọng.

Bạn có thể hiểu cấu trúc này là “Bạn làm ơn…”; “Bạn vui lòng…”, “Bạn có phiền không nếu…”

Ví dụ:

Would you mind if I sat there?
(Bạn có phiền nếu mình ngồi đây không?)

Các cấu trúc tương đương

Để xin phép hay đề nghị được làm gì, ngoài công thức would you mind, bạn có thể tham khảo một số cấu trúc có ý nghĩa tương đương dưới đây để sử dụng trong các tình huống giao tiếp khác nhau.

• Anybody mind if I… (Có ai phiền không nếu tôi…)
• I hope you don’t mind, but would it be possible for me to… (Tôi hy vọng là bạn không thấy phiền, nhưng liệu tôi có thể….)

2. Cách dùng cấu trúc Would You Mind

Dưới đây là cách sử dụng chi tiết cấu trúc hỏi ý kiến, xin phép và một số công thức cụ thể.

2.1. Lời xin phép lịch sự.

Khi muốn đưa ra yêu cầu, hoặc hỏi ý kiến của người nghe một cách lịch sự, ta có cấu trúc would you mind if.

(Cậu có phiền nếu tớ nói với mẹ cậu không?)

Would you mind if I closed the window?
(Cậu có phiền nếu tớ đóng cửa sổ không?)

2.2. Lời yêu cầu, hỏi ý kiến.

(Cậu làm ơn yên lặng 1 phút thôi được không?)

Would you mind my friend coming with us on the picnic?
(Cậu có đồng ý để bạn tớ đi picnic cùng chúng mình không?)

Một số lưu ý khi sử dụng cấu trúc do you mind và would you mind:

• Would you mind và Do you mind có ý nghĩa tương tự nhau, nhưng Would you mind mang sắc thái lịch sự, trang trọng hơn.
• Would you mind được dùng với động từ chia ở thì quá khứ. Do you mind đi cùng động từ hiện tại.

3. Cách trả lời câu hỏi Would/Do You Mind trong tiếng Anh

Would/Do you mind if I….  (Bạn có phiền không nếu tôi…)
